Is accommodation offered for the academic year or calendar year?
Whilst some Colleges offer accommodation on a annual basis, the Village will run on a semester basis. Residents who do not wish to stay in the Village over the summer holiday period may vacate their room and make the room available for the Village management to let out over the summer for conferences or to visitors. Residents that have commitments over the summer months ie for work or study can extend discuss their needs with the Residential Office and extend their agreement during the summer period.

Towards the end of second semester (October), applications are sent out to all residents to apply to continue in residence over summer or for the following year.

Can I choose the people I will live with? (Apartment sharing and room-mates)
The Village provides a unique living environment. Residents will be living with a culturally diverse mix of people from around Australia and internationally. Upon acceptance to the Village you may identify if you have preferences about sharing an apartment with a friend.
The Village will consider all requests but cannot promise they will be fulfilled. For example it is highly unlikely that a group of five friends will be allocated rooms in the same five-bedroom apartment - after all staying on campus is an excellent opportunity to meet other people and extend your group of friends.
Can my partner live with me?
Spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends will be able to apply for accommodation at the Village as long as they are students of Murdoch University. Rooms will be allocated per person.
Couples will be provided with individual rooms and will not be permitted to share a room, however, couples can request to be allocated rooms in the same apartment.
We do have a small number of couples flats, these are usually reserved for post graduates or married couples.
When do I find out what flat I am in?
On arrival to Murdoch University Village, all successful applicants will be notified of the flat they will be located in. This information will not be released before the date of checking into Murdoch University Village.
What is supplied for me when I get to Murdoch University Village?
All the flats are fully-furnished; dining tables, chairs, lounge chairs, fridge, freezer, oven, grill and cooktop. Bed, mattress, cupboard, desk and chair are also provided in bedrooms.
Students offered places at Murdoch University Village must provide their own personal crockery, cutlery, blankets and bed linen. These items are easily purchased upon arrival.
Electrical irons and desk lamps are not provided and residents will need to supply their own. Because of safety concerns, such electrical equipment must be approved by the Facilities Manager before being used.
Does the Village clean my room?
Cleaning of the rooms and apartments within the Village is the responsibility of the occupants of those rooms or apartments.
In the interests of hygiene and in consideration of your co-residents there is an expectation that rooms and apartments will be maintained in a neat and tidy condition.
A cleaning service is available at a fee for any person who does not wish to clean his or her own room.
Full apartment cleaning is also available with the cost shared between all residents of the apartment.
Will the Village provide tutorials?
The Village is not tutoring in any subjects but does provide a resident assistance program. This program is managed by the Residential Life Manager, overseen by the General Manager, and involves a number of Resident Assistants who live in the Village. Senior residents are welcome to apply for positions as Resident Assistants at the Village. Details of what this entails, are available from Village Administration. Should a group of students require support in any particular area the Village Director will work to connect people together - there is usually someone else that has the same or similar questions or study requirements.
Are priorities given to particular students?
The Village will host a culturally diverse range of residents and we see this as a true strength of the community.
Students are welcome to apply for residency from all corners of the world and throughout Australia.
It is our intention to encourage undergraduates and post graduates into the Village, but no one group will be given preference over others. It is for this reason that we ask all applicants to complete the relevant forms as early as possible.
When we have no rooms available we will close applications.
