1. Location

Murdoch University Village is located on the campus of Murdoch University.

It takes a maximum of 10-15 minutes to walk from the Village to any other part of the Campus.

Public transport is conveniently located adjacent to the village as are local shopping precincts. Many students of the University live in the outer extremes of Perth-Fremantle and travel can take up to one hour each way. The benefit of staying on Campus will not only save time but also transport costs.

2. Quality facilities

The facilities of the Village are well maintained and they have all been designed with the specific needs of students in mind.

Noise reduction between rooms was a major consideration, as was the provision of adequate indoor, outdoor common areas for residents to pursue their interests be it individually or in groups. A comprehensive maintenance program is also in place to ensure that the facilities remain in excellent condition for residents.

3. Variety of choice

Murdoch University Village was designed with the student in mind making sure that accommodation was affordable but also understood that space is important.

The Village offers a variety of accommodation options, from share rooms to self contained rooms with ensuite bathrooms – there is a style to suit every one.

4. Fully furnished apartments

All accommodation at the Village has a comprehensive furniture package included.

All bedrooms have single beds, a desk, and chair and wardrobe

There is a variety of apartments and room configurations including Double -Single-Deluxe-Ensuite rooms. These are situated in various apartment layouts. Each apartment is also provided with an ironing board, vacuum cleaner and enough cleaning supplies to get you started.

5. Self catering and Visitor apartments

All apartments have quality kitchens with large bench tops, oven or combination convection microwave, gas hot plates and a refrigerator.

All you will have to bring are some pots and pans, your personal cutlery and crockery, glassware and your culinary skills. Meals can also be purchased at the main campus Monday-Friday.

There is no excuse for friends and family not to visit.

Four Visitor apartments are available for guests of the University or Village Residents at a reasonable cost. These fully self contained one bedroom apartments have all the facilities guests may require for a comfortable stay including a fully furnished kitchen with a gas hob, fridge and microwave.

6. Culture of support

Murdoch University Village encourages an environment of support where the focus is very much on personal growth of the individual.

Our Village team are all available to support you.

That support might be via the RAs who will look out for you and have some solid words of advice and generally know where to direct you - after all they have probably been there too.

Our office team can help out if you are finding it hard to make ends meet - there is always a solution and we will work with you to find it.

7. Intranet and internet access

All bedrooms in the Village have a high-speed data port located at the desk. Internet access is payable at an additional fee and a list of charges is available from administration. Access to all University sites is available.

For those of you who do not own computers or printers you can always use those in the computer labs.

The Murdoch University library and learning common is open 24 hours 7 days a week.

8. Security

Every one is responsible for security at the Village.

Appropriately placed lighting and the presence of security guards on patrol at night greatly assists us in maintaining a secure environment for residents.

9. Value

Weekly residential fees are generally cheaper than external accommodation and your costs of transport to and from University.

When comparing costs with other suppliers of accommodation, make sure you consider all the benefits of the Village in your calculation such as 24 hour onsite security, access to the staff, residential support programs, common areas including study centre, computer labs, TV rooms and of course the swimming pool! You won’t find all these facilities at more reasonable prices.

10. Flexible payment systems

In a lot of ways this is more important than the actual cost of the accommodation.

It would be great if everyone paid the full year in fees up front, but we do understand that is impractical for many.

In an effort to make it as easy as possible for residents to pay fees, if you are unable to pay semester fees in advance you may register to pay fortnightly by Direct Debit.

The Direct Debit option consists of a four week payment upon arrival followed by fortnightly payments of two weeks thereafter. A schedule will be provided with your offer documents.

11. Easy access to a wide range of services

Murdoch University provides all the services you may need for the 'mind the body and the spirit'.

From library to public talks from health services to hairdresser from tavern to those available to talk when needed and all with in 10 minutes of your Village.

12. Community living

The Village is not only for the exclusive use of residents but also for their friends and acquaintances.

University life does not finish at the end of the final lecture, but potentially continues into the evening or over the weekend.

Life at Murdoch University Village is not only conducive to assisting study, but will also have a strong social aspect. The forming of associations, teams and social groups at the Village will strengthen relationships among residents.

13. Resident Assistance programs

As part of the Village community, there are a number of resident assistants (RAs). RAs are senior students who work with the Village Director in overseeing the general pastoral and social programs of the Village.

The RAs will have many specific roles but they are not tutors and neither are they policemen.

The RAs will maintain a constant and stabilising presence in the Village, providing support and enrichment for fellow students in personal, social and recreational matters.

14. 42 week accommodation with options up to 52 weeks

No, we do not ask you to leave at the end of the academic year (or during the midyear break).

If you have a job locally or if you are continuing studies over the summer break, you can arrange to stay on in the Village underr the same terms and conditions as the academic year. We may exercise the option to relocate you to another courtyard if your apartment is undergoing maintenance or refurbishments.

15. The atmosphere

The true diversity of cultures and backgrounds that is present at Murdoch University Village will ensure that it is an exciting place to be part of.

Interest continues to be received from students of all ages from mature aged students doing their Masters degree to 1st Year Undergraduates.

Interstate and International students are all well represented at the Village.

The Village has no religious affiliation and a casual environment prevails.

There are no rigid or stuffy traditions, dated rituals, academic snobbery or hierarchical issues. In contrast, a responsible social and community attitude is encouraged.
